Increasing app complexity restricts QoS ensurance

The latest Sandvine Global Internet Phenomena Report points out the growing complexity of various network-based applications. The addition of embedded video, chat, payment, and other features to multiple applications increases their QoS requirements and makes them difficult to identify by conventional techniques. For traditional traffic classifiers, they would often appear as 'other' or 'unknown' traffic type, as they are simultaneously latency-, reliability- and encryption-constrained, making them particularly difficult to maintain. It opens a space for new application-aware network optimization algorithms, taking into account multiple QoS requirements of single applications.
