Opis projektu
The main objective of the project was to develop, implement and examine models and algorithms for optimization of routing and spectrum allocation in content-oriented elastic optical networks. Elastic optical network (EON) is a novel approach to optical networks. The main idea behind EON is:
The concept of Content-oriented network (CON) assumes that the network concentrates on providing data (content) rather than on host-based conversation model. In the literature, EON is considered as one of technological pillars for building effective and cost-efficient content-oriented transport networks due to its elastic on-demand connectivity and adaptive bandwidth provisioning, which are essential for the new service context. Previous research in the field of elastic optical networks has been focused on unicast flows. However, the development of content-oriented networks using other network flows (e.g., anycast, multicast), triggers the need to develop new optimization methods to provide required level of performance to EONs. As the main criterion in optimization of content-oriented elastic optical networks, survivability will be applied. Network survivability can be defined as an ability to provide the continuous service of the network after a failure. The next objective of the project is to build a research methodology in the area of content-oriented elastic optical networks.
The main hypothesis that of the Project is formulated as follows: Is it possible to develop effective models and methods to optimize routing and spectrum allocation in content-oriented elastic optical networks?
